Get to know the entity 

The Department of Information Engineering (DINFO), one of the 24 departments of the University of Florence, is the reference department for the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) sector of Information and Communication Technologies, within which it carries out advanced research in automation, electronics, computer science, telecommunications, electromagnetism, but also in operations research, bioengineering and electrical engineering. It studies and designs telecommunication systems and networks, radar, sensors and electronic devices, advanced software, ultrasound systems, satellite systems, control and remote sensing systems, multimedia content processing and interpretation systems, decision support systems, information security and protection systems, and telematic systems. It conducts research in apparently different sectors, all characterized by the acquisition, processing, transmission and use of information and knowledge, essential resources of the new society.

What role does it have in the PRISMA project

In PRISMA it will be responsible for managing the Artificial Intelligence and 5G Laboratory, training activities and R&D (research and experimentation) projects on emerging technologies and 5G. It will make available the know-how of the laboratory which positions itself as a center of aggregation of expertise on topics related to:

  • Next-generation communications (e.g., 5G, 6G, VLC, etc.)
  • Fog and Cloud systems
  • IoT networks and devices
  • Cyber Security
  • Blockchain
