Prato is a smart city as it has an advanced level of digital infrastructure (Fiber to the Home - FTTH and 5G network), but it also has a great tradition in innovation, not only in its manufacturing production but also in its ability to experiment with the possibilities offered by information technologies and new organizational techniques in local government and citizen services. The two strategies of the municipal administration, the Digital Agenda and the Smart City Plan, represent the two pillars on which the development of digital innovation processes in the city of Prato and its territory rests: the first concerns, as mentioned, the design and implementation of digital services provided directly by the administration, while the second constitutes the reference framework for the development of the Smart City understood as a new widespread, permanent and constantly evolving urban workshop, open to the participation of citizens and various stakeholders in the territory.
Prato is characterized by small businesses with strong specializations which, in light of new organizational models, find themselves having to embrace the Industry 4.0 revolution with more difficulty than medium and large enterprises. Promoting the rethinking of their organizational models through new emerging technologies such as IoT, Cloud computing, big data analysis, robotics, blockchain and 5G, is one of the main objectives that the municipal administration has set for itself.
In PRISMA, the Municipality, as project leader, will support the innovation and competitiveness of businesses through the implementation of research and experimentation projects, the creation of start-ups that develop new solutions based on emerging technologies – Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain – integrating them with the 5G network, and the technological transfer of new solutions and innovative services to local businesses, with particular reference to those in the textile-fashion sector and Made in Italy.
